Making Money Online in 2009

The big secret about making money online is…it requires work! As much as I’d like to believe the many emails I receive that simply assisting a kindly gentleman from Nigeria in collecting his inheritance will earn $100,000, that just isn’t going to happen.

To make a consistent living online you must have a plan, and then work the plan. Many people jump from one internet fad to the next, never really focusing on a single method. Like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow the money always seems just out of reach.

Niche blogging is one path to an online income. In her Niche Blogger course Amy Bass lays out a plan that can create a consistent cash flow. In fact, just a week ago Amy shared that she had paid off $72,900 in debt in 20 months. She started with a goal, formulated a plan and worked the plan.

The Niche Blogger

Niche blogging isn’t for everyone, it involves writing and frankly that’s not something everyone enjoys. If you enjoy writing I encourage you to take a look at The Niche Blogger, but if you don’t, there’s another path I recommend:

One of the most popular internet marketing products this year is Commission Blueprint. This is a comprehensive plan to affiliate earnings with Clickbank. What I like about Commission Blueprint is that it is a detailed step by step plan. It’s been proven that a key to success is to have a plan and follow the plan. Of course I can’t guarantee results but I’ve not seen anyone follow the plan and not earn money.

Commission Blueprint

Now for the bad news. After investing in Commission Blueprint there are additional expenses. A big part of the plan is to advertise on Adwords and that takes money. Of course anyone who has started a business knows that business expenses are a part of  owning a business, but this additional expense has caught some people by surprise and derailed the plan so I wanted to mention it upfront.

Some people aren’t comfortable with Clickbank or feel that affiliate marketing isn’t a “real” business. I earn a large portion of my income from affiliate marketing and my husband is still at a loss when asked what I do. I don’t believe in putting all my eggs in one basket so I was thrilled to see that the people behind Commission Blueprint were coming out with a new product aimed at an entirely different income stream.

Niche Blueprint is a step by step plan to creating a real ecommerce website selling physical products, not digital products like Clickbank. The best part is that you don’t have to devote your garage or spare bedroom to inventory because this plan involves having products dropshipped to your customers. Dropshipping means that the manufacturer or wholesaler delivers the product directly to your customers.

Unlike Commission Blueprint the expenses after purchasing Niche Blueprint are minimal; simply registering a domain and buying hosting. A domain name costs less than $10 and hosting can be found for under $10 per month. Like all solid plans, this one requires work. Niche Blueprint will not result in $100,000 via Western Union, but can create a consistent and sustainable online income for a few hours work per week.

Niche Blueprint

Unlike The Niche Blogger and Commission Blueprint I do not have first hand experience with Niche Blueprint because the product is not yet available to the public. Niche Blueprint will be available Monday, February 12th at noon and I’ve scheduled all of my available time this week to implement the plan.

Regardless if you choose to implement any of the plans I’ve recommended I strongly urge you to develop a plan and follow it to completion. Once you’ve established a solid income stream from a plan and streamlined the time it takes to maintain it, look for another income stream. Goal setting and plan implementation truly are the secret to success online, and indeed, in life.

Give Your List a Boost in 2009

Get your list off to a great start in 2009 by contributing a report, ebook, mp3, video or even a membership subscription to the New Year Giveaway. There are already many great gifts from marketing superstars such as Willie Crawford so there’s sure to be lots of subscriber interest when the giveaway opens on January 1st.

If you’ve never submitted a gift to a giveaway - it’s easy!

1. Sign up for the New Year Giveaway

2. Sign up for web hosting and an autoresponder if you don’t have one. I register domains at Namecheap, use Hostgator web hosting and use the Aweber autoresponder

3. If you don’t have your own product, look through your computer for any MMR or PLR materials to which you own giveaway rights. If you start with a PLR product make changes to make it your own. Alternatives to a written product include finding an expert to interview, or having a friend or colleague interview you. Create a zip file containing your product and upload it to your web host.

4. Create a quick “sales” page for your giveaway product using an HTML editor. It doesn’t need to be as inclusive as a true sales page, after all the gift is free, but it should look nice and professional.

5. Create your list in your autoresponder. I generally create a new list for each giveaway to better target future emails.

6. Add autoresponder code to your sales page and upload the page to your web host.

7. Test the sales page and autoresponder sequence, ensuring you receive your download, then add your gift to the giveaway.

8. Promote the giveaway to your existing list, through forum signatures, social bookmarking and your blog.

With a little practice you’ll be able to add a gift item in an hour or two and add hundreds or even thousands to your list.
